When to seek a specialized knee evaluation
When pain, locking or instability begins to limit your life
The decision is not based on an MRI alone. Symptoms, physical findings, activity level, previous treatment and your recovery goals are considered together.
Instability
A feeling that the knee gives way when turning, stopping, going down stairs or returning to sports.
Persistent pain
Symptoms continue despite appropriate treatment or interfere with work, sleep, walking or physical activity.
Previous diagnosis or imaging
An MRI, X-ray or previous evaluation suggests a meniscus, ligament, cartilage or advanced arthritis problem.
Urgent attention: seek timely medical care for an obvious deformity after trauma, inability to bear weight, fever with a swollen knee, loss of sensation or severe sudden pain.

The injured structure and the potential benefit of surgery are confirmed first. The procedure and recovery plan are then selected for your diagnosis.
Preserve tissue when possible
Meniscus injury
Depending on the tear pattern, location and tissue quality, meniscus repair, partial treatment or non-surgical care may be considered.
Stability and return to activity
ACL reconstruction
It may be considered for functional instability, sports or occupational demands and associated injuries, together with an individualized rehabilitation plan.
Minimally invasive technique
Knee arthroscopy
A camera and specialized instruments may be used to examine and treat selected problems inside the joint when appropriately indicated.

Does knee or shoulder pain always require surgery?
No. Many conditions can improve with an appropriate non-surgical plan. Surgery is recommended only when the diagnosis and expected benefit support it.
What tests should I bring?
Bring any X-rays, MRI scans, reports and previous notes you already have. A new MRI is not required unless it has already been recommended.
Do you see patients with private medical insurance?
Yes. The consultation may be private or insurance-related. Surgical authorization and coverage depend on each policy.
